The project was initiated at the beginning of 2001. as an informal
study within the academic community of the University of Zagreb, in
collaboration with the Croatian Association of the Blind. The aim of
the study was to determine which solutions are currently available in
the field of blind computing, and which are being used and applied,
in the world and in Croatia.
The study has shown that information technology for the blind, having
in mind the current available technology, could be better, cheaper and
easier to use. A working team has been formed with the aim of integrating
currently available technologies into a project which would improve
computing for the blind in four developing fazes :
- linux distribution for the blind,
- web portal for the blind,
- digital collection of textbooks, literary
works and other written material,
- free Internet access for blind and visually
impaired people.
The project is nonprofit, and will be licensed as Open Source.
